The ALS Association Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter is happy to report that an agreement has been reached with the City of Raleigh’s Special Events Department concerning the 2016 Triangle Walk to Defeat ALS®.

After several months of discussion, the Special Events Department has offered to move the event to the fourth Saturday in April 2016.  The Triangle Walk will be able to remain in downtown Raleigh, continuing to grow and strengthen our level of community awareness, one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against ALS.

“We could not be more pleased to keep our Triangle Walk to Defeat ALS in downtown Raleigh and I know that the ALS Community will be thrilled with the news,” said President and CEO Jerry Dawson. He added a special thanks to all those who made their voices and support heard to the Raleigh City Council during this conversation.

The ALS Association is looking forward to working with the Special Events Department, starting first with the 2015 Triangle Walk to Defeat ALS® on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Halifax Mall in downtown Raleigh.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually, people with ALS lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. There is no cure, and only one drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) modestly extends survival.

The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease on every front.  By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.  For more information about The ALS Association, visit our website at www.catfishchapter.org.
