The ALS Association North Carolina (NC) Chapter Board of Directors is pleased to announce Mr. Dave Shore as the new President and CEO.

Shore has been a part of our staff as the COO for almost 4 years. During that time, he has managed our chapter operations, developed strong relationships in the ALS community, and grown our presence across the state. Leveraging his media expertise, he has spearheaded creative and impactful fundraising events throughout North Carolina. The board has worked closely with Shore and feels confident that the NC Chapter’s strength and successes in serving our pALS and their families will continue under his leadership as President and CEO. “I am very excited to serve as our next CEO,” said Shore. “I am looking forward to continuing to help us innovate growth and expand our digital platforms to maximize the results we can offer in our key mission pillars of care services, advocacy and research.”

This transition is bittersweet, for we have the deepest and most heartfelt gratitude for the vision and leadership that Jerry Dawson has given to this chapter for over two decades.

“After 23 years of service, I am happy to pass the CEO torch on to Dave Shore,” said Dawson. “Dave's connection to ALS began when his mother was diagnosed and later passed away in 1992. He volunteered as a host for the MDA telethon for 5 years and later served on the Board of Directors for the Golden West Chapter of The ALS Association. Dave has 3 decades of experience in broadcasting, production and management, many of those years with ESPN/Disney, and has been the COO of the chapter for almost 4 years, bringing exciting new ideas and innovation to help propel our mission forward.”

This leadership change was a joint decision by the board and Dawson, with succession planning underway for nearly six months.

“Succession planning is vital for every successful organization. I’m grateful our chapter is led by a dedicated and informed governing board with a culture rooted in the pursuit of excellence. I will certainly miss working with our talented staff, volunteers, and supporters, but I am confident in our team. I know the future is bright because of them, and that gives me both joy and peace,” said Dawson.

Dawson’s dedication to our mission and his understanding of the importance of a strong staff and board for mission delivery have made our chapter one of the strongest and most respected ALS chapters in the country. “Jerry’s track record and longevity as the leader of this organization has been an amazing success story. He has always been the loyal champion of our mission, working tirelessly to expand our services and reach throughout the state. It has been wonderful to work with Jerry these last several years and an honor to follow in his footsteps,” said Shore.

Dawson’s efforts have made an indelible mark on the ALS community. Our appreciation and deep admiration of his tireless work will forever remain in our hearts and minds.

Our NC Chapter is committed to our mission, to serve our pALS, to support advocacy, and to fund research to find treatments and a cure for ALS. With the strong foundation that Dawson has laid and with Shore as new President and CEO, we are poised to continue and expand the very important and meaningful work of the ALS Association NC Chapter. The past has been stellar, and the future is bright.
