Hey everyone! This year has been a challenging year for many. We would have already had our walk in Greensboro this Spring. However, with the constant changes, the NC Chapter has decided to unite on September 12th by having mini-walks in our own communities. As they have stated, they anticipate this day to be the single largest day of ALS awareness and support in NC history!

I am not stopping by having a mini-walk but with the help of the Burlington Royals, they have graciously offered to host our community walk at the Burlington Athletic Stadium (if the state has issued the appropriate phasing to do so). You will want to check updates on this page. Please mark your calendar for this day to walk, hopefully at the stadium, and if not, in your neighborhood.

As many of you know, my father Jose fought this disease until 2007. I will walk in his memory and in memory of the many who have battled ALS and also in honor of those who live with this disease today.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.

That's why I'm walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: "You Have ALS" again.

The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.

But, we can't stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
