Hi there friends & family!
2017 was our very first year of participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS in the Triangle Walk. We did a great job of raising over $5,500! Thanks to all who donated and participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS from 2017 - 2020!
I am reactivating the Team DITA to honor Dita's memory and collect donations again for the Walk to Defeat ALS in 2021, on June 26!
(If a donor or participant notices that a credit card transaction is not displayed on the thermometer, please reach out to me so I can ensure that the donation was processed correctly.)
As most of you may know by now, Ronalee and Joel's mother, Ron McGaughey's wife, Dita Ann McGaughey was diagnosed with ALS in 2016. This page has been set up in memory of Dita Ann McGaughey, who passed away from this terrible disease 2/27/2017.
Dita enjoyed watching as many of the UCONN Women's College Basketball games as she could. Thank you for helping Team DITA and Dita's Huskies, who will be walking on Aprill 20th in her honor and as a memorial tribute. We hope to exceed our Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. The past few years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for ALS patients, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of patients and their families. WE CAN'T STOP NOW!
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. This crippling disease can strike anyone, including you or one of those you dearly love!
Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
Thank you,
The friends and family of Dita Ann McGaughey
